Now who is it they think they are fooling here? Even if the Alexis de Tocqueville Institution wasn’t explicitly on the take, they would probably have an interest in making sure that their reports were in the favour of Microsoft, the company that supplies the majority of their funding. Call me a cynic, but I have this sneaky suspicion that people employed at such commercial think-tank organizations know they have it sweet and will do anything to keep the dollars flowing.
I don’t even understand how this sells. Why even have these private think-tanks? Who would think that they were objective?
See this for what it really is: marketing. This a large corporation using whatever means they have to sell whatever lies they need to sell to the market, just like always. Just because the advertising firm calls themselves an “Institution” doesn’t mean that this is somehow research. No, this is really one corporation purchasing advertising services from another.
