You see chicks these days going around with Jackie Onassis themed sunglasses. Apparently corduroy is coming back in (shudder). I’ve been seeing more people with cravats, though perhaps they never went out of style.
Programming, it seems, is not so different. When it comes to programming languages, it would seem that everything old is new again and hacking on COBOL is seemingly hip once more. This, even after years of being dissed as worthless by snot-nosed Java and Visual Studio programmers. Yeah, the same damaged young people who think it reasonable that a simple mortgage calculation program should be assigned more than 5MB in which to work.
I tell ya, I haven’t worked with the language for nearly ten years now, but I’m seriously thinking of dusting off my old textbooks because I know the sucker is still going to work the same and there’s a fat paycheck in hacking on it.
